Ever since it has been clear that businesses fulfilling certain conditions will be eligible to buy cheap shares in Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi, there has been a spate of advertisements in newspapers and on radio and TV offering to arrange for registration certificates to show that a company was doing business on the cut-off date. Usually this “mediation service” costs anything up to MNT800,000. Advertisements seeking to buy a company are also common. Offices that issue the relevant papers are full of people and much money is changing hands to show that a company was registered on a certain date and has no unpaid taxes.
