Human rights in Mongolia are just as important as financial gain in Finland, said Finnish President Tarja Halonen. The Finnish head of state recently made her first official visit to Mongolia, accompanied by a delegation of business executives. Like much of the rest of the world, companies from Finland are hoping to take part in the mining boom taking place in Mongolia.

“When I talk about valuable relations, I talk about respecting human rights, rule of law, transparency, more inclusive government,” said President Ts. Elbegdorj. “I think Finland is going to be a great role model for Mongolia.”

Finnish companies are hoping to secure lucrative contracts to mining projects in Mongolia. The Finnish delegation also included Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Alexander Stubb, who said that Finnish companies could bring environmental values to the area. ”
