Source: MAD Mongolia Date: 05 October, 2011 The Mongolian government plans to implement a variety of programs and benefits for Mongolian citizens. In 2008 the government promised to raise gross domestic product (GDP) per capital to USD 5,000 and now projects GDP per capita will read USD 5,362 next year.The government identified four priorities for dealing with the economic boom in the mining industry: maintaining steady revenues; ensuring equal benefits to all citizens; supporting economic development programs; and increasing investment in the health care and education sectors.The government will raise the salaries and pensions of state workers by 53 percent next year. If passed, state workers' salaries will have doubled since 2008. The proposed budget maintains the monthly allowance of MNT 21,000 to every citizen through the first half of this year. Women 55 and older, men 60 and older, and disabled citizens will receive payments of MNT 1 million, and the government will pay students MNT 500,000 each towards tuition fees. The government has also proposed implementing a “100,000 Homes” program to provide MNT 100 billion as down payments for 100,000 citizens who want to purchase a home. |
