Caterpillar Inc.'s profit soared 91% as machinery sales increased sharply from last year. "We continue to be positive about the longer-term prospects for many of the industries we serve--like mining, energy, infrastructure, electric power and rail," said Chairman and Chief Executive Douglas Oberhelman.

Demand for construction equipment in Asia and North America has picked up of late, according to the heavy machinery maker's monthly sales reports, as dealers restock inventories amid an improved economy. Better-than-expected results from big industrial companies last week raised hopes of further improvement for the bellwethers' performances this quarter.

Caterpillar is represented in Mongolia by Wagner Asia.
