Mongolia named Major Drilling Group International Inc.'s John Ross Davies as an honorary geologist in a ceremony late last month for his contribution to the country's burgeoning mining industry. Major Drilling president and CEO Francis McGuire shared the news with the Canadian media, saying he was proud of his company's work in Mongolia, where it employs more than 400 people. "We've introduced what would be first-world standards in Mongolia," Mr. McGuire said.

Mr. Davies' award was approved and signed by Mr. D. Zorigt, the minister of mineral resources and energy. It is the highest recognition anyone can receive from both the Mongolian industry and the government department, awarded to people who have contributed to the development of the exploration industry. Mr. Davies has been working in Mongolia since 2002. "It wasn't just me, but the good work the entire Major team does," he said.
