Business 4 Land: Building Sustainable Value Chains for Land Restoration

2 December

Rome, Italy

The Business Council of Mongolia, in collaboration with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), organized a side event titled “Business 4 Land: Building Sustainable Value Chains for Land Restoration” on 2 December 2025 during the Presidential State Visit to Rome, Italy. The event convened leading figures from Mongolia and the global fashion and textile industries, including representatives from LVMH Group, Oniverse, FAO, Khanbogd Cashmere, Cashmere Holding, the Sustainable Fibre Alliance, and the Natural Textile Group. High-level government officials were also present, among them the Advisor to the President overseeing the White Gold Initiative, the Chair of the Italy–Mongolia Parliamentary Group and Member of Parliament, and delegates from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry. The event explored how collaboration across the fibre and textile value chain can contribute to land restoration and rural resilience. It aimed to: • Encourage stronger cooperation between Mongolian, Italian, and international partners to promote sustainable rangeland management, responsible trade, and innovation across shared value chains. • Reinforce recognition of Mongolia’s COP17 Presidency as a catalyst for global private-sector action on land restoration. • Mobilize Italian companies for COP17 by introducing pathways for private-sector engagement with UNCCD’s Business4Land initiative and gathering early ideas for potential contributions—such as initiatives, partnerships, or concepts that companies may wish to develop or showcase in Mongolia.
